The rain cometh

Well, it's been an interesting couple of weeks for us here at Exclusive Angling Holidays. Following the snow and freezing weather of my first couple of weeks down here we hit a warm dry patch that allowed us to get on with some serious work down at the lake. Every year large numbers of trees are damaged by the wind and storms that occasionally sweep through the valley that contains our three lakes, and every winter we have to work to clear the fallen and damaged ones.

During the clear weather we've been concentrating on the unused stock pond beside Blue with the aim of holding a small number of fish to boost stock over the next few years. As you can see from the picture below, there was some considerable work to be done:

With the help of waders, chainsaws and a great big fire we managed to make some good progress on clearing the trees that would allow the diggers in to remove the silt and stumps.

With the work just a day away from completion, the rain came, the pond filled! Thankfully, after several days of heavy rain and the drains in all three lakes running at full capacity we managed to avoid any major flooding. The rain appears to have abated (at least for a while) and the stock pond is now empty again.

So it's hi-ho hi-ho, and off to work I go!
