Not bad for spawning week!

The fish in all three lakes we induced into a very early spawn by the prolonged hot weather. Despite this, all 3 lakes produced some stunning fish with a wave of personal bests to boot!

Rouge

As well as banking some stonking Carp the 3 anglers on Rouge all bettered their personal best Catfish - brilliant!

Oh, and well done to Danny for banking one of only two grass Carp in the lake!

Vert

Vert produced to the very best of it's potential this week, with 2 upper twenty pound Commons and a 31lb Mirror. All the anglers left with aching arms, and a vow to return next year...you just can't argue with the kind of sport on offer in the beautiful little lake! Pictures to follow from Phil - thanks guys :-)

Bleu

All three anglers on Bleu this week graduated from fishing Vert last year, and came in search of some big Catfish and some PB Carp. I'm happy to say that they all left with 20lb+ Carp (to 23lbs) and a few good Cats to boot - although the really big ones weren't feeding! See you in August fellas.

As ever, even more pictures are on show in the gallery - these are just a taster.

The Carp are coming...

Rouge

The hot weather continued last week, but the 3 anglers on Rogue found success in fishing short sessions to bank over 30 fish up to 34lbs. As you can see you the pictures below there were some real stunners amongst them.

There are more pictures up in the gallery.

Congratulations on a week of smart fishing in the sun!

The season has begun!

Due to an unavoidable cancellation (get well soon Jim) and some unfortunate circumstances both parties on Rouge and Bleu had to either cut short or cancel their holidays. However, the party due to fish on Vert jumped at the opportunity to upgrade to the greater challenge of Rouge!

Rouge

Colin and Robin were both returning to the Carp fishing scene after a long absence of over 10 years, so as well as getting to grips with the lake there was a certain amount of getting to grips with the ever-changing face of Carp fishing to be done. However, both anglers fished solidly through the intense heat and torrential rain to land a new PB Carp of 19lb 1oz (Colin)and 15 Catfish to mid-thirties. Here's a few photos:

Congratulations on bagging new PBs and getting that fishing bug back again - see you in October!

As a result of the same cancellation, we have only one party on the lakes this week. However, now the weather has settled the Carp are beginning to feed and already 20 fish have been banked up to 34lbs. Pictures will follow early next week!

Pre-season update

Over the course of the last 4 weeks we have been working hard at the lakes to get everything ready for the coming season. In addition to the usual maintenance and tree clearing, we have made several steps to improve the facilities at the lakes for the long term.

Rouge

Anyone who fished during heavy rain in the double swim on Rouge will no doubt still be finding flecks of mud in the most unexpected places - to say the swim was capable of turning into a quagmire is an understatment. To remedy this we have had a large land drain dug which prevents water from the track cascading down towards the lake as it used to. I'm delighted to say this has been extremely effective and even after several strong downpours, the ground remains firm and mud-free.

The chalet swim has also been rebuilt using more natural materials that complement the asthetics of the lake as a whole. The calcaire (white stone) has been covered with a healthy layer of pine bark to provide extra protection for the fish.

The water inlet close to the bridge by the chalet has been cleared to create two extra stalking swims.

Vert

The forest between the road and the lake has been cleared and generally improved. A landing point has also been dug into the bank to allow easier access for landing and returning fish.

A secret pond has been uncovered and cleared between Vert and Rouge!

The cliff face bank has been cleared to allow easier access around the whole lake - it's now possible to walk a complete circuit without protective clothing ;-)

Bleu

'Swim 5' has been dug out to allow easier landing and returning of fish. This is going to be a brilliant swim this season. All other bivvy areas have been enlarged.

Both bridges have been replaced, and the island has been substantially cleared. The area around the chalet has been cleared to allow ever more bluebells to sprout and create a forest you can walk around. The swim next to the drain has been opened out to allow access to previously difficult areas of water.

With our first guests in-situ on Rouge, you can look forward to a few pictures in the next update!

p.s. You might also be sad to know, we lost an old friend:

I, however am delighted to see the back of the damn thing!
