Big Cat Diary!

Rouge and Vert were only lightly fished over the course of the week, but Rouge produced 4 carp for me on Saturday night - the biggest being the same 34lb 12oz mirror i banked just a few weeks ago. Caught from the same spot on the same method (floaters), this fish is obviously a real fan of Chum mixers. The customers on Vert were enjoying their first taste of fishing in a long time, and eventually managed to get in touch with some cracking fish, with their biggest estimated at 25lb!

Bleu

The run of huge Catfish being caught from Bleu continued this week, following 3 90lb+ specimens in as many weeks, it was Greg's turn to bank a monster this time round. Weighing in at 87lb 8oz, the fish was caught on pop-up imitation pellets to the left hand side of the island.

In addition to the big Cat, all five anglers managed to bank some lovely fish during the week, although the fishing was not quite as frenzied as last year when the bagged over 100 fish! Whilst the weather remained dry for much of the week, thursday saw a huge storm, accompanied by several centimeters of rain. Thanks for the scenic pictures ;)

A new lake record!

Rouge

Two lads moved around all the swims on Rouge to keep in touch with the fish, and banked Carp into the 20's and Catfish up to 40lbs. Unfortunately, despite hooking several bigger fish, they didn't manage to get one of the really big Carp or Cats on the bank. Unusually for Rouge, the lads banked mainly Common Carp as opposed to Mirrors. They were using GLM boilies and halbut pellets supplied by Exclusive Angling holidays.

Vert

Although only lightly fished, the two gentlemen fishing Vert managed to put a few good fish on the bank despite losing a lot to the snags. I'm sure we'll see you again next year (if not sooner!) for a slice of revenge :-)

Bleu

Yes, you guessed it, the Catfish record has been smashed by a pound and a half. Alan, on his second visit of three to Bleu this year, bagged a 95lb 8oz beauty. The fish is the same specimen that was banked by another angler on his rods at 93lb earlier in the year. A cracking result, and a fine way to beat your PB!

If that wasn't enough, Alan also banked 'the big common' for the first time this year, weighing in at 29lb 8oz. What a stunning fish.

In total, the two Catfish anglers managed 27 cats, and the odd 'nuisance' Carp!

Thank you again to all guests for leaving the lakes tidy and treating our fish with such respect.

I can't wait for summer to come..

More gloomy wet weather this week, apart from a couple of days of patchy sunshine. Fear not, summer must be on it's way...mustn't it?!

Rouge

Three anglers took on the challenge of Rouge last week, for their first ever week in France, and managed some new PBs amongst otherwise hard fishing. One angler in particular was over the moon to have landed a 40lb Catfish, which he then promptly followed up with a 26lb Carp. A handful of Carp were all taken from the channels and lilies around the island, whilst the big Cat was banked in front of the chalet.

Vert

Vert produced a new PB 25lb Catfish for the family enjoying their first fishing trip to France, courtesy of Exclusive Angling Holidays. They also landed Carp to mid-doubles and lost several more. All the fish were taken on our Halibut pellets.

Bleu

Another family affair on Bleu, and again Exclusive Angling Holidays was able to provide the makings of a brilliant holiday. On the first night James banked a 65lb Catfish, to really start things off in style! This was followed by a series of smaller cats to 35lb until the Carp really began to feed. Our range of boilies accounted for the majority of the 35 fish banked, with a high percentage caught in the hours of darkness. Carp-wise, Bleu produced 4 twenties topped off with the first thirty of the season at 31lb!

Later in the week, Samantha hooked and landed the same 65lb Catfish, but even this monstrous fish was eclipsed by the lake record-equalling 94lb Catfish that Justin landed just before lunchtime on Wednesday...brilliant stuff!

Once again, thank you to all parties for leaving the lakes and caravans in a tidy and clean state - look forward to seeing you all again next year!

A relatively dry week!

Rouge

'The 3 D's' fished Rouged this week, and got off to a flying start, landing a big cat and a 33lb Mirror Carp on their first night! The action continued in spells throughout the the week, and improved as the weather stayed settled and dry, if not as warm as we're used to at this time of year. Every angler walked away with a new PB Catfish as specimens up to 40lb+ were landed. The Carp proved a little more elusive, although amongst the smaller fish landed was a stunning 17lb fully scaled Mirror.

I look forward to seeing you again in the future, and congratulationg you on landing one of the REALLY big cats!

Vert

After the Catfish-filled week before, it took some time for the fishing to really pick up on Vert. At the beginning of the week, the odd Carp was coming out to boilies fished over pellet. however, by Tuesday the lake was back to it's best and went on to produce several Carp of the 20lb mark, including a 23lb common to a piece of floating crust. In addition another 40lb+ cat was taken fishing to to the island with a 22mm Halibut pellet. Great sport all round, and we'll see you on Rouge next year!

Bleu

Arriving for their second trip of the year, Terry, Ian and Andy attacked Bleu with halibut pellets and boilie. The approach paid off on the first day when they landed a 38lb Catfish within hours of setting up! After the first two days, the total stood at 500lb of fish which was made up of largely Catfish to 39lbs. After a slow midweek period the Carp came on to feed and using surface fishing tactics Terry and Andy banked carp up to 24lb. The true highlight of the week was watching Andy land an enormous PB 90lb Catfish that picked up a tigernut boilie on a Carp rig!

Thanks to all three parties for leaving the lake in a tidy state - it is much appreciated!
