Catch Report 30/08/08

Rouge

A big well done to the anglers on Rouge, who had fished Bleu last year and rose to the bigger challenge of Rouge this year. Over the week, 4 carp over 30lbs were caught - 3 from behind the island and one from the double swim. Not to be outdone, Wayne landed a beautiful 28lb fish from the chalet swim.

After a couple of big cats from Bleu last year, I've every confidence that the estimated 90lbs plus catfish caught from behind the island was indeed a very, very big fish - even though it bottomed their scales! From the photos we worked out it's not 'Scarface', our 113lb lake record, but a brilliant achievement, especially on 18lb line and carp gear.

The icing on the cake was another big cat, weighed at over 80lb from the chalet swim. A new PB and an unforgettable capture, especially if you consider it's captor was doubled up with back pain for most of the week!

Bleu

The lads fishing Bleu this week are here for a fortnight, so their pictures will appear next week. There's a nice one of a 90lb+ plus cat too...!

Catch Results 24/08/08

Rouge

It must be a surreal experience to be greeted by people you've never met before as 'Golden Balls'. However, such is Malcom's notoriety for producing memorable hauls from Rouge, that's exactly what happened this year when meeting our other guests.

Following the removal of many of the small cats that interfered with last year's effort to reach 1000lb of carp during his stay, I'm pleased to say that Malcom cracked it this year in style. Between Saturday afternoon and Friday afternoon, with no night fishing and leisurely lunch breaks, Malcom amassed 1084lbs of carp, that included 4 thirties (including one recapture), and an average weight of just below 20lbs. On top of this, he also had 400lbs of catfish too, with the vast majority over 25lbs. Congratulations on a another memorable visit!



Vert

Holiday-time finally arrived for the anglers fishing Vert last week. After their initial visit in May had to be rearranged, it would be fair to say that the excitement and anticipation of their first French fishing trip had been building for a while. As we have come to expect this year, Vert did not disappoint, and a brilliant week's fishing followed.

Everyone banked new PBs during the week, including carp to 26lb, many over the 20lb mark, and catfish up to 43lbs (!). The latter falling to Julie who took our catch pictures gallery to the next level with her unusual technique for holding the fish!



Well done to everyone on an excellent haul and a very enjoyable week for me and Dad.



Bleu

With no one on the lake this week, we were happy to let Steve, Dave and Julie have a crack on Bleu for their final night - to try and catch some of the monsters they could hear crashing behind them! The lake did not disappoint, producing a couple of cats and some big carp. Dave chipped in with the biggest, one of two stunning 'marbled' mirrors in the lake, at 30lbs. Congratulations mate.

News Update

I will be adding last week's catch results to the site later on this week, but first, a couple of bits of news to all our regular and prospective customers.

1. I will be returning to the UK next month to take up a place at Cardiff University to study for a Masters degree in International Journalism. Dad will see out the remainder of this season, whilst I continue to do the paperwork, emails and update this site from the UK. This means there may be some interruption in the regular updates to this site, but fear not, we will be back to normal as soon as possible.

I have really enjoyed and benefited from my time here in France, and will be very sad to leave it all behind. Thanks to all the people who helped make it so special.

2. I had a 98lb catfish from Rouge! :-)



3. During the same week, Dad and I removed 30 small cats under 25lbs. This will allow the carp more room to grow, and give those who only want to target the carp a much better chance. We will be adding a few new carp from the stock pond to take advantage of all the extra food available.
